Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) Applauds State’s Partnership with T-Mobile Project 10Million to Provide Students Free Internet Access

Partnership to provide 100GB of internet to over 600,000 families over five years

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 30, 2020) -- The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) today announced its strong support for a new State of Florida partnership with T-Mobile Project 10Million to provide students free internet access.  The partnership with T-Mobile was announced by Florida’s First Lady, Casey DeSantis.  It will provide over 600,000 Florida families 100GB of internet per year over the next five years.

According to a press release issued by the Florida Department of Education, Project 10Million is a national campaign to increase internet connectivity to millions of student households at no cost to them by offering free wireless hotspots and free high-speed data with the goal of making it available to Florida K-12 students who participate in the national school lunch program for low-income families.

“Access to internet connectivity is essential for all Florida students, and we encourage every option to expand the availability of internet service to students in our state,” said FCPCS President Robert Haag.

“With this partnership, we are closing the achievement gap between all children, and I thank T-Mobile for their commitment to Florida students,” said Florida’s First Lady Casey DeSantis.

“This is yet another opportunity to level the playing field and provide additional educational supports for Florida students,” said Commissioner of Education, Richard Corcoran.  “A rising tide lifts all boats, and more students will have the opportunity to enrich the critical skills they learn in the classroom, at home.”

School administrators can apply for the program by providing ZIP codes for students who participate in the school lunch program.  The schools then distribute the hotspots and devices, with T-Mobile providing assistance for setup and technical support.
