FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 7, 2021) – Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is expanded to 10 days for 2021 and takes place from Saturday, July 31 through Monday, August 9.  The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) encourages parents and students to plan ahead for the purchase of tax-free items, in order to take maximum advantage of the sales tax holiday.

Qualifying items are exempt from tax during the sales tax holiday.  They include items of clothing, footwear and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item, including wallets, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs and diaper bags.  It does not include briefcases, suitcases and garment bags.

School uniforms are included for all items that cost less than $60.

Certain school supplies qualify if they sell for $15 or less per item, including pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, notebook filler paper,  legal pads, binders, lunch boxes, construction paper, markers, folders, poster board, composition books, poster paper, scissors, cellophane tape, glue, paste, rulers, computer discs, protractors, compasses and calculators.  Items not included are printer paper, white-out type products and masking tape.

Also tax free this year is the first $1,000 of the sales price of personal computers and certain computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.

“Purchasing computer equipment, school uniforms and other items during the sales tax holiday can save parents and students a lot of money,” said Robert Haag, President of FCPCS.
