History of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools

Five of Florida’s early charter school operators started the Florida Consortium in 1998 as a regional grassroots organization. Their aim was to help the growing number of new charter school operators get their schools up and running. In 1999, FCPCS became a non-profit corporation under the leadership of Robert Haag, one of the first charter school operators in Broward County. It has since grown to be one of the largest and most influential charter school associations in the nation. The Florida Consortium is governed by a diverse board of Florida charter school operators.
