Eleven Florida Charter High School Graduates Win Prestigious Scholarships
Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Scholarships awarded based on academic accomplishments and financial need.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 24, 2020) – Eleven Florida charter high school graduates have been named recipients of the 2020 Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Scholarships by the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS).
The Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Scholarships are merit-based financial awards given to college-bound or technical school-bound recent graduates of Florida charter schools. The graduates have strong academic records and demonstrate financial need.
Dr. Carlo Rodriguez was an education advocate who worked tirelessly to expand quality school choice options for children. He was the head of the charter school office of Miami-Dade Public Schools and was named to head the Florida Department of Education's Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice. He passed away unexpectedly in 2007.
Recipients of the 2020 Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Scholarships are:
--Jasmine Almero, a graduate of Imagine School at North Port, North Port, Florida. She will attend the University of South Florida in Tampa to study Pre-biomedical Engineering.
--Isabella Clemons, a graduate of Mason Classical Academy of Naples, Florida. She will attend Eckerd College in Sarasota to study Marine Science.
--Beatriz Gonzalez, a graduate of Avant Garde Academy Broward of Hollywood, Florida. She will attend Florida International University, Miami, to study Forensic Pathology.
--Dylan Kasper, a graduate of Sarasota Military Academy, Sarasota, Florida. He will attend State College of Florida, Bradenton, to study Business.
--Landon McLain, a graduate of Marco Island Academy, Marco Island, Florida. He will attend Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, to study Ocean Engineering.
-Kayla Ross, a graduate of Indian River Charter High School, Vero Beach. She will attend Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, to study Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Four of the scholarships are also sponsored by EGIS Insurance & Risk Advisors of Boca Raton. The company is a preferred vendor partner of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools. The four scholarship recipients are:
--Ny'Qeria Alexander, a graduate of Somerset Jefferson County K-12, Monticello, Florida. She will attend Florida Agriculture & Mechanical University of Tallahassee to study Criminal Justice.
--Nataline Fadael, a graduate of Mason Classical Academy, Naples, Florida. She will attend Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, to study Criminal Justice.
--Nathalie Farinas, a graduate of Mater Lakes Academy, Miami Lakes, Florida. She will attend Florida International University, Miami, to study Biological Sciences.
--Christian Janowicz, a graduate of Odyssey Charter School, Palm Bay, Florida. He will attend the University of Florida, Gainesville, to study Genetics.
One of the scholarships is also sponsored by E-Rate Advantage of New Jersey. The company is a preferred vendor partner of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools. The scholarship recipient is:
--Nadia Jennings, a graduate of Manatee School for the Arts, Palmetto, Florida. She will attend Florida State University, Tallahassee, to study Public Health.
